Extinguisher Training

Each year, Team Members from the Richmond Suppression Department provide hand portable fire extinguisher training to approximately 500-600 people in the Mid-Atlantic region. During these training sessions a video on how to properly use fire extinguishers is shown and then a live controlled fire training session is conducted. During the live training a designated area is taped off and a large fire rated pan is filled with water and then a mixture of gasoline and diesel fuel are added and ignited. The trainees are then given the opportunity to put out the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher using the PASS technique. This training class is significant in providing people with the proper way to safely extinguish a fire with a fire extinguisher.
